[edit]From Aramaic פֵּלפְּלָא (pelplā), from an Indo-Aryan source most likely through Persian پلپل (pelpel), ultimately from Sanskrit पिप्पलि (pippali, “long pepper”); compare Arabic فِلْفِل (filfil) and Hebrew פִּלְפֵּל (pilpél).
