Learned borrowing from Classical Syriac nominalized from the feminine form of the adjective ܪܨܝܼܦܵܐ (rəṣīp̄ā, paved), from the verb ܪܨܦ (rəṣap̄, to draw tightly together, to pave); cognate to Arabic رَصِيف (raṣīf) and Hebrew רְצִיף (r'tsíf).
