Etymology[edit]

From the root ܫ-ܒ-ܚ(š-b-ḥ) related to praising; compare Arabic سَبْح(sabḥ) and Hebrew שֶׁבַח(šéḇaḥ). The sense of "opinion" is a calque of Ancient Greek δόξα(dóxa).
