Literally, peace be upon you; compare the same in Arabic اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكِ (as-salāmu ʕalayki) and Hebrew שָׁלוֹם עָלַיִךְ (shalóm aláyikh).

  • For some speakers, this term is fairly formal, in everyday speech often replaced with the shorter ܫܠܵܡܵܐ (šlāmā).
  • The typical response is ܒܫܲܝܢܵܐ (bšaynā, literally in peace) or ܒܫܲܝܢܵܐ ܓܵܘܵܟ݂ܝ (bšaynā gāwāḵ, literally in peace among you).
