[edit]From Proto-Indo-European *h₂éndʰos (“blooming flower, herb, sprout”). Cognate with Ancient Greek ἄνθος (ánthos, “flower”), Old Irish ainder (“young lady, maiden”), Albanian endë (“blooming”), Old Armenian անդ (and, “field”).
