From Sanskrit अस्ति (asti, to be), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hásti (to be), from Proto-Indo-European *h₁ésti (to be), from *h₁es-.

आस्चे (āsce, to be) is a dialectal doublet, which is spoken in dialects other than Kodiali Konkani.
