From Proto-Indo-European *h₁ewk- (to be accustomed). Compare Lithuanian jùnkti (to learn), Polish uczyć (to teach; to learn), Gothic 𐌱𐌹𐌿𐌷𐍄𐍃 (biūhts, accustomed to), Old Armenian ուսանիմ (usanim, to learn).
