Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hr̥ȷ́úš (“straight”), from Proto-Indo-European *h₃r̥ǵ-ú-s ~ *h₃r̥ǵ-éw-s, from *h₃reǵ- (“straight, right”). Cognate with Avestan 𐬆𐬭𐬆𐬰𐬎 (ərəzu), Ancient Greek ὀρεκτός (orektós), Latin rēctus, English right.
