Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Indo-Aryan *gẓʰináHti, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *gžʰináHti, from Proto-Indo-European *dʰgʷʰi-néH-ti, from the root *dʰgʷʰey-. Cognate with Younger Avestan 𐬘𐬌𐬥𐬁𐬌𐬙𐬌 (jināiti), Khotanese jända, jindä, Old Norse dvína, Old English dwīnan (whence English dwindle).[1]
