[edit]Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘐𑘲𑘟 (gīda), 𑘐𑘲𑘠 (gīdha) with word-final /ɖ/ (compare Gujarati ગીધડું (gīdhḍũ)), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀕𑀺𑀤𑁆𑀥 (giddha), from Sanskrit गृध्र (gṛ́dhra). Cognate with Konkani गीद (gīd), Gujarati ગીધ (gīdh), Hindustani گِدّھ (giddh) / गिद्ध (giddh).
