Etymology

From Proto-Indo-Aryan *trásati, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *trásati, from Proto-Indo-European *tréseti (to tremble, to fear). Cognate with Ancient Greek τρέω (tréō, to fear, dread; to flee from fear), Avestan (𐬟𐬭𐬀-)𐬙𐬆𐬭𐬆𐬯𐬀𐬌𐬙𐬌 ((fra-)tərəsaiti), Persian ترسیدن (tarsidan, to fear), Latin terreō. Compare also English terror, a Latin borrowing.
