Etymology 1

From Sanskrit द्वार (dvāra), from the root द्वृ (dvṛ, “to cover”); ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *dʰworom. Cognate with Marathi दार (dār, “door”). Doublet of दरवाज़ॖ (darawāzụ), however this word differs in meaning.
