From Sanskrit द्वार (dvāra), from the root द्वृ (dvṛ, to cover); ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *dʰworom. Cognate with Marathi दार (dār, door). Doublet of दरवाज़ॖ (darawāzụ), however this word differs in meaning.
