Inherited from Old Marathi नसणे (nasaṇe), from Prakrit 𑀡𑀢𑁆𑀣𑀺 (ṇatthi), from Sanskrit नास्ति (nāsti). By surface analysis, (na) +‎ असणे (asṇe).
