From an extension of Proto-Indo-Iranian *parš, from Proto-Indo-European *pels- (rock, cliff). Doublet of पाषी (pāṣī). Cognate with Prasuni Uṣǘt, Pashto پرښه (parṣ̌a), Proto-Celtic *ɸallom (whence Irish aill), and Proto-Germanic *falisaz.
