[edit]Inherited from Prakrit 𑀧𑀢𑁆𑀣𑀭 m (patthara, “stone”) without compensatory lengthening, from Sanskrit प्रस्तर (prastara). Displaced Old Hindi पाथर (pāthara). Cognate with Punjabi ਪੱਥਰ (patthar).
