Etymology[edit]
Borrowed from Classical Persian برادر (birādar). Doublet of भाई (bhāī), भ्राता (bhrātā), and भ्रातृ (bhrātŕ). Cognate with Bengali বেরাদর (berador), Gujarati બિરાદર (birādar), Punjabi ਬਰਾਦਰ (barādar) / بَرادَر (barādar), English brother.
