From Proto-Indo-Aryan *bʰiṣáȷ́, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *bʰišáȷ́. Cognate with Avestan 𐬠𐬌𐬱𐬀𐬰- (bišaz-), Kurdish, Persian پزشک (pezešk, “doctor”).
