From Old Marathi 𑘦𑘰𑘽𑘕𑘱𑘨 (māṁjira), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀫𑀁𑀚𑀸𑀭 (maṃjāra), from Sanskrit मार्जार (mārjāra). Cognate to Konkani माजर (māzar), Gujarati મંજાર (mañjār), Hindi मँजार (mãjār), मंजार (mañjār).
