Etymology

[edit]

From Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hrámatay, from Proto-Indo-European *h₁rém-e-ti, from *h₁rem- (to rest). Cognate with Ancient Greek ἔρᾰμαι (éramai), Lithuanian rìmti. Compare also Proto-Turkic *badram, an Iranian borrowing, ultimately from the same Proto-Indo-European root.
