From Proto-Indo-Iranian, from Proto-Indo-European *septḿ̥. Cognates include Avestan 𐬵𐬀𐬞𐬙𐬀 (hapta), Old Church Slavonic седмь (sedmĭ), Latvian septiņi, Latin septem, Ancient Greek ἑπτά (hepta), and Old English seofon (English seven).
