[edit]Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀳𑀢𑁆𑀣𑀺𑀬𑀸𑀭 (hatthiyāra), from Sanskrit *हस्तकार (*hastakāra), from हस्त (hásta, “hand”) + कार (kāra, “effort, exertion”). Compare Punjabi ਹਥਿਆਰ (hathiāra) / ہَتھیار (hatheyār), Sindhi هَٿِيارُ (hathiyāru) / हथिआरु, Gujarati હથિયાર (hathiyār), Marathi हत्यार (hatyār), Bengali হাতিয়ার (hatiẏar), Dhivehi ހަތިޔާރު (hatiyāru).
