Inherited from Sanskrit जाङ्घिक (jāṅghika, (anything) relating to thighs), from जङ्घा (jaṅghā, thigh, shank) +‎ -इक (-ika). Cognate with Assamese জাঙীয়া (zaṅia), Odia ଜଙ୍ଘିଆ (jôṅghia), Gujarati જાંઘિયૉ (jā̃ghiyŏ), Hindi जाँघिया (jāṅghiyā), Punjabi ਜਾਙ੍ਘਿਆ (jāṅghiā). Doublet of জাং (jaṅ).
