Inherited from Paisaci Prakrit [Term?] (compare Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀅𑀚𑁆𑀚 (ajja)), from Sanskrit अद्य (adyá). Cognate with Hindi आज (āj), Gujarati આજ (āja).
