From Sanskrit युवन् (yúvan, name of the ninth year in Jupiter's cycle of 60 years); from Proto-Indo-European *h₂yuh₁on-, *h₂yuh₁n-. Cognates include Latin iuvenis, Persian جوان (javân) and Old English ġeong (English young).
