[edit]Borrowed from Dutch thee (“tea”), in turn from Hokkien 茶 (tê). Doublet of ചായ (cāya). Cognate with Sinhalese තේ (tē, “tea”) and Tamil டீ (ṭī), தேய் (tēy).
