    Inherited from Prakrit 𑀩𑀁𑀥𑀇 (baṃdhaï), from Sanskrit बन्ध॑ति (bándhati), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *bʰándʰati, from Proto-Indo-European *bʰéndʰ-e-ti, from *bʰendʰ- (to bind, tie). Cognate with Hindustani بان٘دْھْنا / बाँधना (bāndhnā), Gujarati બાંધવું (bā̃dhvũ), Marathi बांधणे (bāndhṇe), Punjabi ਬੰਨ੍ਹਣਾ (bannhṇā) / بَنّھݨا (bannhṇā), Sindhi ٻَنڌَڻُ (ḇãdhaṇu) / ॿंधणु, Sylheti ꠛꠣꠘ꠆ꠗꠣ (bandá), Assamese বন্ধা (bondha).
