Etymology[edit]
The term is composed of เสียง (sǐiang) + ลือ (lʉʉ) + เสียง (sǐiang) + เล่า (lâo) + อ้าง (âang), literally meaning “spreading voices, telling voices”.
It is from the first paragraph of the thirtieth stanza of the 15th-century epic poem, Lilit Phra Lo (ลิลิตพระลอ), which says:
