Etymology 1[edit]

From Proto-Mon-Khmer *tkɔɔʔ ~ *tkɔɔh (island). Cognate with Mon လ္ကံ (kɔˀ) or တ္ကံ (tkɔˀ), Chong kɑʔ, Thai เกาะ (gɔ̀), Lao ເກາະ (), Vietnamese and Mal kɔʔ.
