[edit]Inherited from Proto-Austroasiatic *ciːnʔ (“cooked, ripe”). Cognate with Muong chỉn, Vietnamese chín, Mon စိန် (cin), Bahnar sĭn, Pacoh chein, Mang θiːn², Bolyu tɕin⁵³ and Semelai cin.
