Etymology

[edit]

From ἀλλαγή (allagḗ, change) +‎ -σσω (-ssō), though Beekes considers ᾰ̓λλᾰ́σσω (ăllắssō) to be original and ἀλλαγή (allagḗ) a derivative. Either way, ultimately from ἄλλος (állos, other).[1]
