Translingual

Symbol

  1. The hypodiastole or diastole, a textual or punctuation mark formerly used to disambiguate homonyms in Greek.

Usage notes

The hypodiastole continues to appear in a limited number of Greek words (principally disambiguating ό,τι from ότι) but has been entirely and formally conflated in Modern Greek with the comma. This symbol is intended only for rendering late Classical and earlier Byzantine Greek works where the hypodiastole and comma remained distinct.
