Etymology[edit]
"Tree-wilter", 木 (ko) + 枯らし (karashi, 連用形 (ren'yōkei, “stem or continuative form”) of the verb 枯らす (karasu).). The karashi changes to garashi as an instance of rendaku (連濁).
