Etymology[edit]

"Tree-wilter", () (ko) + ()らし (karashi, (れん)(よう)(けい) (ren'yōkei, stem or continuative form) of the verb ()らす (karasu).). The karashi changes to garashi as an instance of rendaku (連濁).
