Named after Naples in Italy: borrowed from French napolitain (Neapolitan), from Latin neāpolītānus, from Neāpolis (Naples), from Ancient Greek Νεᾱ́πολῐς (Neā́polis), from νέᾱ (néā, new) + πόλῐς (pólis, city).
