Etymology
[edit]Compound of 真 (ma, “true, real”) + 秀 (ho, “outstanding”).[1][2]
First attested in the late 900s.[1]
Various modern dictionaries omit this term.[3][4] Some include it, but do not indicate any pitch accent, and mark it as a -nari adjective, using the classical conjugation pattern.[2] This often indicates that the term has fallen out of use.
