Korean

Etymology

Orthographic borrowing from Japanese 建物(たてもの) (tatemono), with Korean readings of hanja components. Sino-Korean word from 建物, from (to construct) + (thing, object).

Pronunciation

  • (SK Standard/Seoul) IPA(key): [ˈkɘ(ː)nmuɭ]
  • Phonetic hangul: [(ː)]
    • Though still prescribed in Standard Korean, most speakers in both Koreas no longer distinguish vowel length.
