Etymology[edit]

Of native Korean origin. From (geot-, unpeeled, without further preparation) +‎ (jeol, stem form of the verb 절다 (jeolda, to be pickled, be marinated)) +‎ (-i, -er, -or, agent noun suffix). Literally, pickled thing without further preparation.
