Etymology

Of native Korean origin. From Middle Korean 코ᇰᄑᆞᇧ (Yale: khwoG.phosk), 코ᇰᄑᆞᆾ (Yale: khwoG.phoch).

A combined form of (kong) and (pat), due to their physical similarities with human kidney.
