Gothic
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Contains the comparative suffix -๐ฟ๐ผ๐ฐ (-uma). The root is ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *แธฑley- (โto lean, inclineโ), with a sense of "crooked, slack". Compare Old Irish clรฉ (โleftโ) and Latin clฤซvius (โinauspiciousโ) from the same root. The origin of the ๐ณ (d) is unclear, but Lehmann (1986) suggests derivation from a formation similar to Proto-Germanic *hlฤซdล (โslopeโ).

Declension
[edit]The accusative plural neuter form is attested as ๐ท๐ป๐ด๐น๐ณ๐ฟ๐ผ๐๐ฝ๐ฝ๐ฐ (hleidumลnna) in Codex Ambrosianus A, apparently a misspelling; Codex Ambrosianus B has the expected ๐ท๐ป๐ด๐น๐ณ๐ฟ๐ผ๐๐ฝ๐ฐ (hleidumลna).
