𒀴
Akkadian
Etymology
From Proto-Semitic *w-r-d- (“to be lead, to descend, to be taken down from a place”), corroborated by originally being written with the Sumerian 𒆳 (/kur/, “highland, foreign country”) ending, the Sumerian term being likely derived from an Akkadian borrowing; compare Hebrew יַּרְדֵּ֔ן (yardén).
