Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Slavic *-ьlivъ (occasionally Proto-Slavic *-ъlivъ), a combination of the resultative suffix (-l) +‎ -ив (-iv).

Usage notes[edit]

Adjectives formed with the suffix -лив normally denote tendency, liability to do the activity/property that the adjective stem conveys.
