Etymology[edit]
The suffix is a combination of the diminutive suffix -tje and an adjective/adverb-forming suffix -s.
Suffix[edit]
-tjes
- Added to an adjective it creates an adverb (or rarely another adjective) with a connotation of familiarity and informality.
Usage notes[edit]
- The variants -jes and -pjes are used in cases where the regular diminutive would be -je or -pje instead of -tje.
- The variants -kes and -kens are limited to Southern Dutch.
