From Latin flōrem, accusative of flōs (“flower”), from Proto-Italic *flōs, from Proto-Indo-European *bʰleh₃- (“flower, blossom”), from *bʰel- (“to bloom”). Similar consonant change to that occurred in Sicilian ciuri.
