Inherited from the Mediaeval Byzantine Greek σαββατοκυριακόν (sabbatokuriakón). Synchronically analysable as Σάββατ(ο) (Sávvat(o), Saturday) +‎ -ο- (-o-, Sunday) +‎ Κυριακ(ή) (Kyriak(í)) + -ο.[1]
