Etymology

Cognate with Khitan 𘱑𘯺 (ém.a). Related through borrowing or inheritance with Proto-Turkic *ïmga, compare Old Turkic 𐰢𐰍𐰀 ((a)mɣa).

Possibly dividable into *ïma +‎ *-xan, with the latter found in several other animal names.
