Inherited from Old East Slavic одинъ (odinŭ), from Proto-Slavic *edìnъ, from Proto-Balto-Slavic *edīˀnas, from *aiˀnas, from Proto-Indo-European *óy(H)nos. Cognate with Russian оди́н (odín), Old Novgorodian ѥдинъ (jedinŭ) and Old Church Slavonic единъ (edinŭ).
