From *(s)poǵ-eye-ti , a glottalic variant of Proto-Indo-European *speḱ- ( “ to spectate ” ) . Akin to Icelandic spekja ( “ to calm ” ) , Old Norse spakr ( “ wise, visionary ” ) .
