Etymology
Possibly from Old Khmer or Middle Khmer bejañāṇa, bœjñāṇa, bvejjañāṇa, etc, meaning “expert; expert witness”;[1] from Pali vijjañāṇa (“knowledge, science; proficiency, expertness, skill; etc”); ultimately from Sanskrit *विज्ञज्ञान (vijñajñāna).[2] Cognate with Modern Khmer ពេជ្ញញាណ (pɨcñɔɔñiən).
