Borrowed from Malay kunci, from Sanskrit कुञ्चिका (kuñcikā, key) or Pali kuñcikā (key). Cognate with Lao ກະແຈ (ka chǣ), Khmer កុញ្ចែ (koñcae), Malay kunci.
