From Latin florēscō, from flōreō (“I bloom, flower”) + -ēscō, from flōs (“flower”), from Proto-Italic *flōs, from Proto-Indo-European *bʰleh₃- (“flower, blossom”), from *bʰel- (“to bloom”), as if through the form flōrēscentia.
