  • Widespread in South America. Official government use in Guyana, for example the Minister of Amerindian Affairs. Uncommon in North America, where First Nations/Aboriginal person (Canada), Native American (United States), and Indian are more common, although the word Amérindiens is commonly used in French Canada to mean North American Indians.
